Big MacDaddy Burger Salad

I LOVE salads, which is a hot take, but I genuinely enjoy eating a good salad. I will CRAVE salads. It’s bizarre but alas, I have been doing it since being a wee little one. And although I have lots of salad/bowl recipes on here. This Big Mac inspired burger salad, is one of my all time favorites. Its all the flavors you love from a big mac, without the buns. I also love that I can add an obscene amount of pickles which I think the Big Mac burgers are always lacking in.

Also just one additional story here: Big Mac was my go to choice at McDonalds because I would sing the song and know that it didn’t have any tomatoes, which I didn’t like as a kid. (Although you probably will now see tomatoes on this salad because I got to get my veggies in!)

Ingredients:

  • Burgers (can be impossible, beef, turkey, whatever). Prepared as you like, I enjoy pan fried as it gets nice caramelization
  • Cheese of choice if any
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Pickles- lots of em
  • Dried minced onion
  • Optional: Roasted sweet potato “fries”
  • Any additionally veggies you want to add I recommend:
    • Tomatoes
    • Cucumbers
    • Radish
    • more types of pickles

For the dressing:

  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • 1 Tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 hearty dash garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • salt and pepper

Assembly:

  1. As I said, cook the burger (whatever kind) to your liking. Recommend adding some type of cheese but, this is your salad, you do what you want!
  2. Bowl some water, and add 1 tablespoon minced onion to a heat safe bowl. Pour the boiling water over the onions and let sit until rehydrated. (This is apparently how they make those onions that go on top of the burgers- you can use fresh onion, but its a much sharper flavor and not the same sweet mellow profile as this preperation)
  3. Julienne your iceberg so its nice and thin and place at the base of your salad. Now add ontop your pickles and additional veggies.
  4. Whisk together the ingredients for the dressing
  5. Place your burger on top and the onions as the warmth will release their flavor. Pour dressing on top and BOOM! The best salad.
  6. You will feel like you just had a big mac after this salad, trust.
